Voting closed on Saturday 16 August 2025. The following candidates were elected:

Of the 886 voters in this election, 408 cast ballots. Of those, 401 ballots were valid and 7 ballots were empty.

GO’s Elections are governed by our Constitution, as voted for by our supporters. We are working to the following election timetable.

5pm Saturday 19 July – notification of election and open of nominations

11.59pm Saturday 2 August – close of nominations

10am Tuesday 5 August – voting opens

7pm Saturday 9 August – hustings event (watch it back here)

5pm Saturday 16 August – voting closes

What the Steering Group does

The Steering Group is a committee of 12 people, elected annually from among GO’s Members. At least five elected members of the Steering Group will be women or non-binary, and at least two will be from Global Majority backgrounds.

Together, the Steering Group members are responsible for running GO on a day-to-day basis. They make key decisions about campaigns, manage GO’s operations and communications, and more. They are responsible for helping GO to pursue its Aims.

Once it is elected, the Steering Group selects two of its members to act as Co-chairs to facilitate its work. It also appoints some of its members to cover certain key roles, like GO’s Treasurer, Safeguarding Officer, and Compliance Officer.

The Steering Group reports to GO Members and Supporters each year at our Annual General Meeting. And GO Members have the power to recall, remove and replace Steering Group members.

The Steering Group will also have the power to create and manage Working Groups, which will draw in the expertise of GO Members and Supporters to work on specific projects. It will also coordinate with GO Local Groups, which will empower GO activists across England and Wales to get organised locally.

As GO is a brand new entity, the first elected Steering Group will be particularly responsible for building the organisation. This will likely mean co-designing and introducing many of the structures, processes, and systems which will enable our members to participate and organise both centrally and locally.

Who can be a Steering Group member

Any GO Member can stand for election to the Steering Group. If you want to be eligible to stand, please join GO no later than Saturday 19 July 2025.

Do you have big plans for GO? Do you have the capacity and determination to make them a reality? Do you have skills and experience you think could help this new eco-socialist organisation go from strength to strength? Consider standing for election to the Steering Group!

We especially encourage those from groups that face oppression, marginalisation and underrepresentation in society and in the Green Party to consider putting themselves forward.

How to vote

Everyone who became a Member of GO by 5pm on Saturday 19 July 2025 will be eligible to vote in our Steering Group elections.

Voting opened at 10am on 5 August and will close at 5pm on 16 August 2025.

Every eligible Member has been sent an email from noreply@opavote.com, with a link and instructions how to vote. Please follow those instructions to vote before the deadline. Make sure to check your spam/junk folders, as the emails can end up there. If you still can’t find the email, contact ero@greensorganise.uk. 

Voting will be by Plurality Block Voting, in accordance with GO’s Constitution. Each Member will be entitled to cast a maximum of 12 votes, and no more than one vote per candidate.

At the end of the election, the 12 candidates with the highest number of votes who collectively satisfy the quota requirements will be elected. The quota requirements are that at least five elected members of the Steering Group will be women or non-binary, and at least two will be from Global Majority backgrounds. If any quota requirement cannot be satisfied due to a lack of candidates meeting the requirements, positions on the Steering Group will be left vacant. The Steering Group will fill such vacancies by co-option, ensuring to meet the quote requirements.

Election campaigning

The Electoral Returning Officer will ensure the elections are conducted in line with GO’s Constitution, Aims and values. Rules and guidelines covering how candidates and their supporters may campaign are set out in the candidates’ nomination form.

GO is hosting an online hustings at 7pm on Saturday 9 August 2025. We’ll contact you soon to let you know how to attend.

The hustings are open to GO Members and Supporters only.
